Adaptive Mesh Generator for Atmospheric and Oceanic Simulations – Amatos
نویسندگان
چکیده
This technical report documents the features of amatos and ideas behind those features. amatos is a mesh generation library that is designed for atmospheric and oceanic applications. It features adaptively refined triangular or tetrahedral meshes with polygonal or bitmapped boundary definitions. It supports finite element based methods for solving partial differential equations, has been used extensively with semi-Lagrangian time stepping methods and implements radial basis function interpolation among others. Applications range from the solution of stationary potential equations over tracer advection to dynamical core implementation.

Unstructured Adaptive Grid Generation for Geophysical Flow Simulations
This paper describes an adaptive, unstructured mesh generator, which can be used for discretizing regional and global domains for geophysical flow simulations in general, and atmospheric flow simulations in particular. The global mesh generator is a part of the Operational Multiscale Environmental model with Grid Adaptivity (OMEGA) System. For a physically complex and computationally intensive ...
متن کاملAdaptive discontinuous evolution Galerkin method for dry atmospheric flow
We present a new adaptive genuinely multidimensional method within the framework of the discontinuous Galerkin method. The discontinuous evolution Galerkin (DEG) method couples a discontinuous Galerkin formulation with approximate evolution operators. The latter are constructed using the bicharacteristics of multidimensional hyperbolic systems, such that all of the infinitely many directions of...
متن کاملA Parallel Solution-Adaptive Scheme for Ideal Magnetohydrodynamics
A parallel adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) scheme is described for solving the hyperbolic system of partial-differential equations governing ideal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows in three space dimensions. This highly parallelized algorithm adopts a cell-centered upwind finite-volume discretization procedure and uses limited solution reconstruction, approximate Riemann solvers, and explicit mult...
متن کاملComparison between adaptive and uniform discontinuous Galerkin simulations in dry 2D bubble experiments
Adaptive mesh refinement generally aims to increase computational efficiency without compromising the accuracy of the numerical solution. However it is an open question in which regions the spatial resolution can actually be coarsened without affecting the accuracy of the result. This question is investigated for a specific example of dry atmospheric convection, namely the simulation of warm ai...
متن کاملA mesh generation procedure to simulate bimaterials
It is difficult to develop an algorithm which is able to generate the appropriate mesh around the interfaces in bimaterials. In this study, a corresponding algorithm is proposed for this class of unified structures made from different materials with arbitrary shapes. The non-uniform mesh is generated adaptively based on advancing front technique available in Abaqus software. Implementing severa...
